The Patterson Center for Counseling & Integrative Wellness just hosted another fantastic seminar. The topic: Women’s Mental Health. This encompasses any woman; self, wife, sister, mother, daughter, aunt, grandma, friend, neighbor, or even a stranger. Giving them a chance to express their thoughts and feelings to you is the first step. If they appear to be reluctant to share certain issues with you, please suggest they speak to a mental health professional. Offer to accompany them, it may help to have someone along for support.
We need to get past the sigma that is attached to seeking mental health assistance. The stigma is a large blockage point for many. This does not have to be. The earlier an issue is uncovered, the less chance it will not evolve into a mental illness. Having a mental health check-up is just as important as a physical check-up.
If you would like The Patterson Center for Counseling & Integrative Wellness to present this seminar at your place of business, church, or meeting, please call 248-884-7288 or email us at info@thepattersoncenter.com

I dont think the problem in getting over the
sigma of one bringing to light mental health
concerns. The REALITY OF THE SITUATION
there’s simply not the services available for
the numbers of people that need of support.
In truth there’s not the resources in dealing
with the daily amount of very serious cases.
At least 40% of those in prison dont belong
inside an prison they should be living within
the community under the protection care of
social services (mental care dept) such the
situation problem but bursting at the seams.
If Govt ran an campaign informing public
of the signals when one should seek their
mental heath care then the very next day
doctors surgeries / hospitals / be flooded
by those claiming in showing the signs of
approaching a serious mental breakdown.
Thus it having its humour / however when
one in need of support due a poor mental
health situation then it no laughing matter.
The best way tackling the situation would
be more mainstream mental health progs
that advised / as informing how one best
coming to terms in dealing with problems
advice on medication not always the best
solution // thus cut the demand for drugs
where in truth drugs are given as means
of a doctor being rid of pestering patients
as the inset belief people have in given a
drugs the only way of being cured where
truth told many drugs / totally worthless.

William, much of the problem in America IS the stigma attached to seeking mental health advice. The UK may not have many resources for people, however, there are many resources for mental health care here. The seminar The Patterson Center hosted was free and open to the public. In the seminar the signals when one should seek their mental health professional was addressed. The over use of medication was also discussed. Many of those with mental health issues do not come forward until they are entrenched in the situation. The purpose of the seminar was just that, to get people out discussing mental health. Thank you for your post!
